How do you keep it all together? I feel like this question is asked often to moms in general. - but it sometimes applies to me when related to all of my hearing accessories. Regardless...newsflash... - we don't! We just have no choice but to keep going! I’ve got two little ones under two years old and my husband’s work takes him away multiple times a year. Trust me - I have my breakdown moments! But then, I get a random amazing night’s sleep and I’m a new person again. I take a moment to recognize a situation is frustrating, cry/yell then my head is back down to keep going. The only thing I can think of that makes me appear like I've got it together is my ability to adapt and be spontaneous.
This is a picture at the end of a 5K race in downtown San Diego. I'm laughing at myself because I'm wearing the shoes I usually walk my dogs in. I completely forgot to change into running shoes before I left the house. Oops! I didn't realize until I got out of the car and was headed towards the Start Line. I'd committed to the race so I was either going to walk it or try to run. I decided that my shoes were fairly comfortable and committed to running. I only got one blister that day!
My point is, when things go awry - why not keep going with your head held up high and figure out how to finish what you set out to do. Either make do with what you have or figure out another way to get to the end. You might be surprised how creative you can be! When your hearing aid or CI batteries die, when you forget to pick up an ingredient at the store, when a blind date stands you up, when all the kids decide to create a crying symphony or - when you put on the wrong shoes. Utilize your lipreading skills, write down messages, create a new dish, go on another adventure, create a new game, explore the path less traveled.
