How do you wake up in the morning? Until I went away to college my mom was my alarm clock. Like any tired teen who stayed up too late dilly dallying I definitely abused my human snooze button. I knew she wouldn’t let me go late to school so I continued to burrow under my blankets with my eyes shut until I could sense her frustration and annoyance level was a nine or ten. Sorry Mama!
When I went off to college I had to figure something out. I have profound sensorineural hearing levels bilaterally. Even if I wore my hearing aids I wasn’t able to hear the alarm. We decided to purchase a little pocket sized vibrating alarm clock and put it under my pillow. It slipped out more than a few times so I had to figure something else out since being late to 6 AM tennis practices meant more laps around the trac.
I found the Sonic Boom Alarm Clock with a shaker and put that underneath my mattress. Talk about an earthquake! I would set it for a few minutes after I knew my friends were coming over and explode into hysterics when they jumped from the surprise!
Now I naturally rise with the sun and I’ve become a morning person (or a mom). . I generally don’t need to set an alarm but just in case when my husband is out of town (which can be often for long periods of time) I set my alarm up with the baby monitor/sensor. This was especially helpful when our second was a newborn and constantly waking in the middle of the night. I’m not going to lie, it’s a lot and sometimes I just chose to wear one cochlear implant processor through the night. The thing is, I just don't sleep as well and over time my coil site gets sore.
